2009 Product Innovations - Network Products Guide

What makes it Innovative? Direct row-level access anywhere in the storage hierarchy. Scalability from terabytes to petabytes. Automated data system and database administration. Use of traditional and alternative media for storing data according to its business value. Enterprise access to data from multiple sources in a centralized data store.

StorHouse/RM’s innovative technology incorporates a patented segmentation scheme that enables unlimited, yet manageable, database structural growth. Segmentation makes it possible to use removable storage technologies or massive arrays of idle disks (MAID) for relational database storage. In StorHouse/RM, applications produce relational tables through batch loads that create segments, or partitions, consisting of database user file components (tables, indexes, and large object data).

StorHouse/RM works in conjunction with the FileTek StorHouse information management system a time-tested and proven high-volume data management solution. The StorHouse/RM approach to relational data management is unique and flexible by design. As a result the product has no direct competition that can deliver the same overall capabilities. StorHouse/RM is a more dynamic and efficient database extension strategy than classic hierarchical storage management (HSM) products which typically store offloaded historical data offline. With HSMs any access to offline data requires retrieving targeted data from the HSM system moving it back to the relational database server and then reloading it into the relational database – all before a query can be executed. With StorHouse/RM no reloading of data is necessary. Users or applications can submit a single query to access information in both their relational Oracle or DB2 database and StorHouse/RM at any time.

StorHouse/RM can be used as a centralized data store for information from more than one data source. For example once loaded into StorHouse/RM relational data becomes available to any application that can pass SQL-based queries to StorHouse/RM databases. This means that Oracle data offloaded to StorHouse/RM can be used in conjunction with offloaded DB2 or SQL Server data without the need to maintain multiple copies in different database formats.

Targeted Users: StorHouse/RM is used by medium-to-large enterprises including telecommunications providers scientific research organizations utility companies and financial services institutions.

Satisfied Customers: Yes FileTek has one customer who recently updated to StorHouse/RM 3.4. The vendor claims many satisfied customers who use previous versions of StorHouse/RM to manage highly available cost-effective relational archives that satisfy enterprise-wide information life cycle management and compliance requirements. These systems include database extension systems and large-scale active archive applications for critical commercial and scientific research data.Customers include Verizon Business Mobile Telephone Networks (MTN) The Met Office and ATT ITM.
